Club changing rooms open!

April 11, 2021 No Comments

We are delighted to announce that the club changing rooms will open from Monday 12th April. In line with government recommendations, social distancing and the hands-face-space-replace advice should be followed when using the facilities. RYA advice say that members should change and shower at home if possible to minimise the risk but if that’s not possible or practical, then the club’s facilities are there to be used. For the time being we are limiting numbers to two (or a family group) at a time in each changing room. Please therefore work quickly to avoid the queues!

You’ll no doubt be pleased to hear that the club water systems have all been flushed, cleaned and sanitised after a long period of closure. We will be increasing the cleaning frequency too.

At last it feels like some degree of normality is approaching!

We hope to open up the bar on 22nd May and all going well there will be some events organised on and off the water as things begin to open back up. Watch this space for any developments.

Thanks for your patience and enjoy the season!

Spring 2021 update

April 10, 2021 No Comments

Dear member

I am sure everyone is pleased that the roadmap back to some sort of normality has begun.

The club is looking to open up gradually in line with government guidance.
Members can now use the patio area along with the picnic tables. The toilets can be used but not the showers or changing rooms I am afraid. We are keeping an eye on the guidance and we are hopeful that we can open the changing rooms w/c 12th Apr.
The kitchen and upstairs bar area are still out of action.

We will update you on any changes in these rules as things progress. The most important date looks to be the 17th May when hopefully hospitality can resume indoors and we can reopen the bar.

Club subscriptions are due by the end of April. There will be no increase in fees again this year and members will also receive a discount if paid before the due date. Lisa Collinson is again dealing with renewals, which can of course be paid online, just visit our website. There will also be membership forms downstairs in the club but these can also be downloaded from the website.

It is important that anyone paying for boat or kayak storage obtains a new permit from Lisa and displays it on their craft, there are tags and labels downstairs in the club. There are a number of boats in particular that are in a very bad condition which will have to be disposed of if not claimed.

I hope this has answered a few people’s questions? Looking forward to a warm, windy and not so restricted season.

Hunstanton Sailing Club Statement – Chris Bamfield

November 18, 2020 No Comments

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bamfield family following the devastating news of Chris’ disappearance over the weekend. Chris is a much loved and valued member of the club, and a friend and colleague to many of our members. He has always been a strong advocate for our sports and has given fantastic support for the development of the club and our facilities.

Chris is always a great supporter and enabler of the events and activities that we’ve run as a club and in partnership with the Borough Council. This incident has come as big shock to our water sports community and we’d like to thank the emergency services and the volunteers for all their efforts these past few days.

Once again, our thoughts are with the Bamfield family during this incredibly difficult time.

If you would like to show your support, please donate to the RNLI charity using this link:

Anything you can give to support these vital emergency services would be much appreciated.

Changes to HSC facilities – Phase 4 – Bar closed from 25th September 2020 until further notice

October 8, 2020 No Comments

Due to the latest government legislation and following RYA guidance, we regret that the bar is now closed until further notice.

The club facilities however are still open and we have revised procedures in place for the safety of the members and their family and friends. We are still encouraging members to get out there and enjoy the water!

Our preferred method for complying with Track and Trace is the NHS App. Please remember to log in using the app and the QR code if you visit the club facilities and there are other people present around you.

Please note that the club AGM is on Sunday the 1st November at 1300. This will have to be held virtually, the agenda and details for taking part will be sent out in a couple of weeks.

Phased opening of the HSC facilities – Phase 2 – Club Kit and Picnic Tables 7th Jun

June 7, 2020 No Comments

Another week of cracking wind has gone by and as promised, the second phase of reopening was completed today. Members can now borrow the club equipment from the garage and we have also made the picnic tables available. There are procedures posted at the club to observe and follow to ensure safety and prevent the spread of the disease. Please observe BSUPA advice below.

Phased opening of the HSC facilities – Phase 1 – Toilets 1st Jun

June 1, 2020 No Comments

Most of the activity has been at Old Hunstanton for the last week with the amazing North Easterlies, which seemed to pick up in the afternoon with the sun charged sea breeze. However, I’m sure the South Westerlies will be back soon and to make life a little easier we have now opened the club toilets for members and their guests. As you can imagine, trying to open this part of the club and still comply with the official guidance is challenging. We have a procedure in place which is posted on the changing room doors for members to follow. We have taken advice from the RYA and other official sites and we hope this will work for everyone.

So from today, 1st June, the toilets are open for business!

The guidance does not allow us to open the clubhouse at the moment, so changing rooms, showers and bar areas are still closed.

Next task is to make available the club kit in the garage. We hope to have a procedure in place for this by the end of the weekend.

Thanks for your patience.

Enjoy!

Return to water sport activities on 13th May

May 20, 2020 No Comments

Following the government’s advice on the 10th May, the RYA and other water sports governing bodies are allowing a cautious return to the water from 13th May until further notice. We are delighted to see members back on the water and also pleased that so many new memberships have been taken up. At the moment single handed recreational water sports are allowed and so is boating that has more than one person on board, so long as they are all from the same household. Unfortunately the club house currently remains closed but we are working up a solution to allow it to be opened in phases later and following guidance from the government and RYA. We will look at opening the toilets in the first phase and then the showers after this. There are no plans to open the bar until government guidance allows and our own risk assessments consider it safe. The loan of club kit is unfortunately not yet possible due to safety concerns but the committee are considering how this can be made available to members in the near future. We are also in regular contact with the RYA who are supporting and updating clubs like ours on a daily basis. If you are unsure of anything then please contact one of the committee members or refer to the Covid-19 guidance on the RYA website. Please be safe both on and off the water and take on board the RYA advice.4129 RYA Return to Boating Poster FINAL ONLINE 300dpi

Covid 19 – Corona Virus Update 24 March 2020

March 25, 2020 No Comments

The Hunstanton Sailing Club and Water Sports Centre considers the welfare of our members and their families and friends to be of the utmost importance. We are reviewing the Corona virus situation regularly and following the advice and guidance of Public Health England. For this reason we are having to make changes to the way we operate.

To keep you safe and to minimise the spread of the virus, we advise the following changes to our operations:-

Hunstanton Sailing Club and Water Sports Centre will be closed from 24th March 2020 for the time being.

This means that all group, individual, social, watersports and other club based events will be cancelled until we advise otherwise.

At the moment we will consider taking bookings for events from June but these will be provisional, as it is highly likely that they will need to be cancelled or postponed.

In order to shut the club facilities down safely, we will be decommissioning the bar and draining/cleaning the pipes. The hot water system will also be switched off.

We will be reducing the cleaning frequency as the facilities will be closed.

Only essential maintenance tasks will be undertaken.

We will be in touch soon regarding membership renewal options.

Thank you for your cooperation in these difficult times and please contact one of the club committee members should you have and questions or concerns. Please be safe and take care.

Covid 19 Update HSC

Covid 19 – Corona Virus Update 21st March 2020

The Hunstanton Sailing Club and Water Sports Centre considers the welfare of our members and their families and friends to be of the utmost importance. We are reviewing the coronavirus situation regularly and following the advice and guidance of Public Health England. For this reason we are having to make changes to the way we operate.

To keep you safe and to follow the government’s guidance, we advise the following changes to our operations:-

All group, social, watersports and other club based events will be cancelled for March, April and May 2020. We will advise about the status of other scheduled events from June onwards, nearer the time.

At the moment we will consider taking bookings for events from June but these will be provisional, as it is highly likely that they will need to be cancelled or postponed.

We will continue with the current cleaning regime but this will be enhanced to focus on all contact surfaces such as doors, door handles, shower valves, alarm keyboard etc.

Hand sanitiser will be provided for occupants to use in the building.

Individual water sports including windsurfing, kitesurfing, kayaking, supping and single handed sailing dinghies will still be supported and encouraged, so long as the government’s guidance on travelling, social interaction and separation distance of 2m is observed. We recognise that getting exercise and fresh air is important to maintain fitness and social wellbeing in this difficult period.

Club facilities including toilets and showers will remain open to members who continue to follow the latest government advice regarding travelling, social interaction, gathering and the 2m rule. The bar will be closed until further notice.

Members displaying the symptoms of Covid 19 should not use the club house facilities until they are deemed to be no longer contagious as described in the government’s guidance.

There are a number maintenance tasks that need to be completed on the club buildings and the boats. These were going to be undertaken at a number of prearranged working parties. These working parties have been cancelled. Instead we will be undertaking the works using individual volunteers or a handful of volunteers observing the safe 2m distance between one another and other current, relevant government advice.

The government’s advice is changing daily unlike our website. For this reason the government’s advice will always override the advice on this website.

We are so lucky that the sport that we love is individual but please be careful and observe the government’s advice when you are off the water and using the club facilities.

Thank you for your cooperation in these difficult times and please contact one of the club committee members should you have and questions or concerns.
