View Full Version : Cabrinha demo day thread

08-11-2005, 11:06 AM
Sorry guys I cocked up :) In the process of moving the Cabrinha thread to the members area I accidentally deleted it (seriously, it WAS an accident!)

I moved the thread but accidentally left a shadow thread in the original location. I then deleted the shadow thread which also deleted the moved thread. We do take backups but only on Fridays for this forum so, it's gone - sorry about that! One of the aims for this forum was to have free speech within the HUB and we certainly don't want to become message police. We'd prefer to move appropriate posts to the members area rather than delete them altogether and that was honestly the intention for the Cabrinha thread.

Marcus - you numpty...

OK - I asked Marcus to move the thread in here (no problem he said  ) as I thought it brought up a number of issues that we ought to discuss privately - rather than publicly (particulary as we know for sure that some of the local authorities DO actually check this forum - and frankly, that's what this members area is for)

For the benefit of those who didn't see the thread - here's my summary of the issues as I see it:

Cabrinha are currently going round the country demo-ing their new kites, particularly the Crossbow which is a departure from the usual LEI.

With nothing but the best of intentions - Pilch suggested that we could give Hub members first dibs on trying it out - the argument being that this would help promote the club and maybe even increase the membership.

I personally thought this was a great idea and mentioned it in the recent club newsletter.

Then yesterday Pilch asked me to email round a (rather stylish) flyer to remind people that the demo was this saturday coming.

As a result of this email - a couple of people felt that this was an inappropriate thing for the club to be doing. Charlie from Flexifoil suggested that (and I'm paraphrasing here) The Hub should be purely for social functions and stay away from any 'pimping' or forming allegiances with any particular brand.

Sven from Oceanside went even further and suggested that the demo may upset the local council if we haven't approached them and received their approval.

Several members (including myself) replied that far from forming brand-allegiances - this was purely meant as a fun day and a chance to try some new kit. Furthermore that it would be great to have more demo-days with any and all other kite manufacturers - as it benefits the end-user to try out as many products as possible.

PHEW

So here's the question...

'Do Hub members want to see more demo days organised (with full approval from the council of course) or should we avoid this sort of stuff in the future and purely concentrate on social events, access issues etc.?'

over to you...

(apologies again to those whose postings we lost)

Although I'm not there on Saturday it seems a shame if it's defo cancelled. to me it just seems like a bit of harmless fun which has just been blown out of proportion a tad!

Seemed like a good idea to me. I was quite looking forwardd to trying some new gear - it might even save me from the dreaded DIY

wanna try it whatever the minority say,

we want all the gear to try, so the more demo days the better

I have spoken to the sailing club, as you may know there are members with affiliations to the council, moves are afoot to investigate possible 'issues' (if there are any) with 'demo' days.

This whole business has left a bitter taste in my mouth, I thought we were all just a bunch of mates having a 'crack'....how wrong can you be...

At first I was really pissed off, now I'm just embarrased, after selling the 'atmosphere' and the 'great bunch of guys' to Chris Martin...of course that is spot on for the majority of you, guess its minority rule down here.....ah well.

It may interest you to know that I have been approached to help organise demo days for other brands (although I cant think why!)

Obviously, judging by the 'political issues' the Cabrinha one has caused I'd prefer anyone who is interested in trying 06 products from other major brands to contact me directly. Speak to me on the beach or email me: mick@cmsdigital.co.uk be prepared to get a flyer with the details on though!

If there is sufficient interest, i'll see what we can do, I think these may be sailing club events though - wouldn't want to upset anyone!

Looks like me, Paul and the rest of my friends will be kiting at Old Hunstanton - I think, tomorrow, if you want to check out the gear it'll all be there, if there's any wind i'm sure we'll be out having a ball.

If you ask me as a 'friend' to try my kit, and you are fully insured, I may even let you have a go....if you can prise it off me!

I'm still looking forward to having a few beers and a BBQ with my friends on Saturday night, Phill has very kindly offered himself up for bar duty (damn fool!) and I'll be manning the barbie (be prepared to be poisoned) - everyone is welcome.

If any of you want a patch of my floor to kip on saturday night (sorry beds already taken), just let me know - book early though, may get a little packed!

As ever, I just do this shit for fun....

Hope to see you tomorrow

Pilch

Well - that was a good laugh on the night and big thanks to Pilch for all the grub and Phill for manning the bar.

I'm happy to report that everyone's friends again (in my opinion the whole thing was just a bit of a misunderstanding really)

Apologies to eeyore for bursting his airbed in the inaugural WWF world airbed bodyslam contest round at Pilch's...
