View Full Version : Water launching a C kite
I learnt on a Rebel and have one now - I believe they are classed as a hybrid. Water re-launching is a piece of pish and I've had plenty of practice!!
However, I've just bought a C kite and am aware a different technique is required to re-launch in water. Can anyone provide a quick summary of how to do this please.
cheers.
Its a 10m North Vegas with a 5th line
well then - I think what you do is pull hand over hand working your way up the 5th line till the kite flips....
I say I think - because I've never actually had one mesel
Thanks John. I'll try later maybe :D
perhaps someone else will confirm this - but I think you've gotta watch out for having too much loose 5th line getting wrapped around something while the flipped-kite tracks to the edge of the window...
in other words carefully feed it back through while the kites moving across the water to the edge...
anyone....????
Yes that is pretty true john.
Also if you do not let the 5th line out slowly be expected to have a rather hot launch.
That's my experience any way.
With the kite leading edge down pull in some 5th until the kite sits up at about 45deg from the water (you don't want to pull in too much 5th because it will then fall onto it's back). With the kite at this 45deg position pull one of the steering lines to work the kite to the edge of the wind window. As the kite moves around to the side start letting out some 5th a little at a time. Once it gets to the edge of the wind window it will launch.
Watch out for 5th line getting wrapped around your legs. Also, it helps to have some resistance against the kite while you are relaunching so try to keep your board on your feet in a deep water situation.
A 5th line makes relaunch very easy but only when you have practiced it and know how to do it. Try it in the shallows a few times until you've got the hang of it and you'll be fine.
