WTF....

'Lifestyles' is the name under which the whole weekend is being organised - bmx, skate, climbing, live-bands - as well as the BKSA event...

I've been asking around some of the riders and organisers for any tips on running the event...

this from Hoggy

"wish list for me is simply good beach marshalling to get riders lined up for their heats and on the water in time. Good signage or communication of heat numbers is a big help and really makes the difference for first time amateur competitors.

Other than that, free parking helps! "

If anyone is willing to help with marshalling on the weekend - can you let me know?

cheers,
J.

Don't the BKSA themselves supply sign boards for heat numbers etc.? I imagine we'd also need fluorescent bibs or similar for the marshalls, plus a load of other stuff eg klaxon etc.

I guess we need to find out how much the BKSA do and how much is going to be down to us?

yeah - I was told by the BKSA that they'd pretty much run the show - but speaking to some of the riders who went to events last year - there were instances of people missing their heats (don't know if any of you have met Mark Connolly - but he probably would have won the ams last year but missed a crucial heat

so - just trying to help it run smooth really...

Plus it would be good to have info for the public to see what's going on. Tony D has suggested he can rustle up a fair few volunteers too...

If it IS windy (please god) then I imagine a lot of kiters will want to go out themselves e.g. at Old Hunny and then everyone get together for a big blowout in the evening - so the core spectators may well be just 'joe public'???

was the latest 'Lifestyles' meeting last night and I'll tell ya sumthin - I'm started to get excited about this event now....

some wicked bands already booked... sort of 'rocky' on the friday night and more 'reggae / ska' on the saturday with hopefully Cruss and the fat monkey's DJ'ing in between...

biiiiggggg marquee - bmx park, skate park (displays, comps and free use by public), climbing wall, trampoline trainer with bounce-board, nintendo-tent, VW rally, IBBY'S STAG-DO!!!!

Oasis leisure centre running kids activities on the beach (kids 5-a-side, beach-volleyball etc)

oh yeah - and BKSA round 3

let's all pray for sun and wind

oh yeah - meant to say - we reckon we need about 18 volunteers - the council will probably be able to source most of these

we could do with a couple of kiters willing to control a big 'scoreboard' we've got planned for up on the prom

one person to be down on the beach with the judges getting a handle on which heat is next and who's in it - and relaying that back to the person on the prom using the sailing clubs vhf radios - so they can update the scoreboard (outlining quarters, semis, final etc etc...)

let me know if anyone's willing to help - could also probably use a couple of beach marshals to shepherd unwanted freesailors away from the comp area...

02-16-2007, 09:21 AM
oh yer...

and we need volunteer cameramen/women as we'd like to video every heat (well at least the pros on the friday anyway - weather-permitting)

who's got a camcorder and willing to give up most of a day videoing the hotshots?

Be great to have some volunteers to help video some of the bands on the night too - and especially if we get Ibby up on stage and do something unspeakable to him...
