Ack John. Unlucky mate. Hopefully it'll come home soon.
You oughta stick a post on Flexi and Kiteboarder lost & found too.
this has just turned up on ebay (well spotted marcus!)
I've contacted the seller - I'll let you know how things unfold....
Damnit. Beats my record of 20 days lost at sea by a mile ;)
the guy just rang - he's a diver and found it off Sea Palling last september and has had it in his garage ever since...
seemed very friendly at first - then asked if I wanted to offer more than the £100 bid he'd already received - as he's been nominated by the group of divers to get the best price he can on ebay....
I then explained that kiteboards do not come under the classification of 'marine salvage' according to the 'receiver of wrecks' as they will not support a persons weight (which is the info Dave Smith had given me after his thing with the fisherman selling his kite that time!) and instead is classed as 'lost property' and should have been handed in to the local police station....
He then argued that he reckoned it was classed as 'flotsam' and that he didn't want to get bad feedback of the guy who's already bid £100 for it....
anyway - tried to talk him round - and he's going to talk to the other divers about it and get back to me - I've got his name and tel. no. anyways...
surely he can pull the auction without getting bad feedback though???? - I never use ebay - so I don't really know...
Ok so spoke to the 'Receiver of Wrecks' a very charming young lady named 'Sophie Exelby' (02380 329 474 should you ever need it!) she said that it's definitely NOT 'flotsam' as it has not come from a wreck and is instead - as Dave said - 'lost property' and should have been handed in to the local police station.
Even if it WAS flotsam - he has no right to sell it.
He'd also said that as it was 8 miles offshore - it was in international waters - again she said that international waters is actually 12 nautical miles offshore (not that this matters anyway!)
She suggested I contact the local police and supply them with the ebay listing...
RESULT!
the dude just rang back and he's pulled the auction on ebay and we've made arrangements for it's safe return. He'd spoken to the other divers and they 'wouldn't want to be seen to be selling someone else's property...'
also mentioned that he'd been contacted by a friend of mine urging them to 'give it back or else!' (was that you Mr Smith? )
anyway - yeah - hopefully pick it up soon... :P
hey - my board did a 'downwinder' from Old Hunny to Sea Palling! beat that!!!
I sent him a little nudge....maybe a few others did too
cheers Pilch
all's well that end's well I suppose - he's now asking if I've got a pic of mesel kitesurfing and they'll run the story in his local dive newsletter...
sent him a pic and said I would bring a token of my appreciation when I picked it up - and he's just replied and asked me to make a donation to the local RNLI instead...
cool... :P
awesome result
