View Full Version : Teaching your mates on the beach.....
Not keen on this at all....and its quite a regular ocurrance.
There was some guy obviously teaching his mate on sunday, upwind of everyone.
The guy was not in control and ended up flying through the polesurfers and the kiters smacking his kite on the water as he went. I was going to have a word myself but by the time I got in and sorted they'd gone.
There are several problems with this....other than the obvious one
I dont have a problem with people learning, we all learnt at some time - but teaching people when you A) can only just do it yourself and B) have no instruction qualifications is just wrong.
When you couple that with the amount of traffic that was on the water on Sunday - its a recipe for disaster.
Can I suggest that we have some kind of policy regarding this, like the launching policy at Branny where we can 'advise' people that this is really not safe and recommend that they get lessons from a 'proper' instructor?
A note on this site wouldn't go amiss either, maybe even a sign up somewhere...its only gonna take one have a go hero to take out a kid then it'll all hit the fan.
phew....thats better I can go back to talking shite again now....
pub talk hey?
i totally agree with this even though me and a few others i'm sure had learned by help from friend and trial and error. but like you pilch theres a lot more people on the water these days and a lot more qualified instucters about, so theres no need for these unnessasary dangers.
i for one think this should be brought up at the next meeting. thinking of meetings it might be a good idea to have one prity soon, what do you think people?

we're definitely overdue a meeting - who's available / not available next few weekends?
i'm busy this weekend and the sat after but i'm fine after that, is there any chance of a meeting one night in a week in a central and conveniant place? i've got to learn how to spell 8)
Im available whenever.....
....we could discuss it over a few beers.....to too many though
Pilch is right, and there is a few things about this matter that need to be thrashed out, week day eve would suit me, as long as it isnt too early, 7ish would be great, maybe meet up in march [ the place] which is reasonably central ish. or can we do it online using messenger?? cos i know the march area is central to most of us but miles from pilch.
Big winds this weekend by the looks of it boys, fasten your seatbelts and do up your pants cos its gunna get messy
one of the main reasons for the recent BKSA visit was that they're trying to unify teaching standards across the UK and will be contacting all local authorities to that effect - so this is an issue we're going to have to deal with whether we like it or not...
hoping I'm gonna be recovered by this w/e but it's not looking good at the mo... (did a swandive off my bike last night - luckily my face took most of the impact  )
about the meeting ??
can every one do the saturday 15th april ?
this is the day before the hsc meeting (sunday)
i think it would be good to get up too date with the hub so we can take any info needed to the sunday meeting.
i`m ok with it and i think stevo is to after speaking to him yesterday. can every one ask about and then let johny m know , hoping that is ok with you johny ? :?
I'm at a family wedding in Newcastle over easter - so I'm going to miss the HSC agm too (so one of you lot will have to tell Mr Searle why kitesurfing in a huge concrete harbour is not a good idea!)
I can draw up a list of stuff that needs covering though if that date suits everyone else - one of you will have to take the minutes though....
yo. I'm avaliable anytime apart from this weekend really. Just so as you know........ 8)
here's another date to try then - Sun 9th April - say early afternoon to coincide with high tide?
Some agenda suggestions:
1 update on branny meeting
2 update on BKSA meeting
3 people teaching 'mates' on the beach
4 upcoming HSC agm - meeting with Searles re harbour proposal
5 club rash vests
6 club comp?
7 lifestyles event 20th may
what do you reckon?
yeah sounds good John... I have just a few extra points tho...
8. Matties hair - short or long? You decide
9. matties dance move number 14 (the pointing to my left heel move)...should it stay or does it put off the chicks??
10. handles on boards - just exactly how gay are they?? :D :D :D
11. Do we dip into HUB funds to give John some dancing lessons?
Just joshing with ya John.......meeting and date sounding good dude......
