February update

February 4, 2014 Club news, News No Comments

Hello to all our members on this chilly February day.

I thought we should update you on club developments once again before I depart these shores on Friday for the warmth of the Adelaide hills and Great Ocean Road. 40 plus degrees lately!!!

Firstly, we now have a calendar on the website showing all those events booked so far for this coming year. There are some exciting events including one planned by our own club freestyle windsurf champion Kieren Roan. Jo Wilson, pro-kiter is also planning a youth weekend of kitesurf training. We will also have a paper calendar up in the clubhouse very soon provided by Nikki Durrant. If you are planning an event it is important you don’t double-book. So glance at the calendar and contact the club secretary Lesley Lees if you wish to book a time and date. A small task group of the committee is currently looking at various hire charges in particular for NON members. We have had a number of enquiries re hire of the club for special events lately.

You will see amongst other dates that the AGM is now booked for Sunday 10th August 2014. This delay is due to the fact the accounts don’t finish till year end April and they have to be presented at the AGM. You still need to renew annual membership by the end of April and bear in mind if you pay early you get next years membership at this years rates. So get your cheque books out soon eh? Stuart Moore and John Matthews are looking at an easier online renewal system but there is no guarantee it will be ready for this year.

The committee has two new members, Tracy Spearing and Ollie Arnold. Les Collinson has stood down recently. Our thanks to Les who has been a very helpful committee member. Ollie is already known to most members and Tracy brings much experience as a family member and in particular represents the West Norfolk Young Carers group.

I am delighted to inform you the committee has accepted a quote for the rear fire escape to be built asap, and we have the help of Geoff Carnell, who will prepare the ground for the base, and David Gumb has a cement mixer whilst Will Rockcliffe has some spare cement!!! So it will be very much an in-house piece of work for the base. We are still hoping some members will offer their services for some of the work upstairs. If you have any skill you wish to share or any equipment you can donate etc please contact Will Rockcliffe in the first place.

John Fox and others are working on a feasibility study on reconfiguring the bar / kitchen layout upstairs and will report back to the next committee meeting.

We have also placed an order for the new door entry system and are awaiting the final snagging to get underway this month. The new door entry will be done at the same time.

I hope this gives a flavour of how hard the committee are working in the ‘quiet season’ and as always we welcome any ideas or advice from interested members.

Commodore Mick
