Won’t be too long before the 2017 season kicks in – so here’s a brief heads-up as to our plans regards Sailing in 2017.
On a competitive level – the club’s contribution to the annual regatta “North West Norfolk Week” will be the weekend of 5th and 6th of August this year. For more information check out the NWNW website at www.norfolkweek.co.uk
On a club level – we’re planning on holding regular FUN races throughout the season open to both members and non-members. This will kick off on Sun 23rd April with a ‘Refresher’ session open to those wanting to race or to dust off the cobwebs. Participants need to be capable of sailing from the shore and back to the shore unsupervised in moderate conditions. Those that participated in at least two of the training sessions last year should be OK to join in. Use your own boat or club boats if needed.
The planned races will then take place on:
April 30th – race start 10am
May 28th – race start 9am
June 25th – race start 9am
July 30th – race start 11am
August 27th – race start 10am
September 24th – race start 9.30am
If anyone requires more information email Stuart Moore at email@example.com or telephone 01485 579363.
Outside of these dates we also have pencilled in a couple of days where you can come and give sailing a go / take a ‘joyride’ in a boat: namely “Push the boat out” on 21st May and a general club open day on July 1st. More details to follow.
If there’s enough interest / support we will also run some informal sessions between the dates above.
Remember this is community / volunteer run club – so if there’s anything you think we should be doing / anything you’d be willing to help with – please don’t be shy about coming forward
Regards the above and all other events – please keep an eye on the club ‘Events Calendar’ page at www.hunstantonsc.co.uk/events
Storm Katie caused quite a lot of damage down the prom saturday night and sunday morning and seems to be having another go at it today!
Big thanks to club members Geoff Brine, Craig Taberner and Jord Smith for heading down late saturday and righting the boats they could and huddling them together head to wind to minimise any further damage.
It was so windy that the old parking kiosk at the bottom of the slip road was completely blown over! – so if your boat is moored down the prom – please come and check whether it’s damaged and safely secured.
Hunstanton Sailing Club is proud to be hosting the first weekend of North West Norfolk Week this year on Saturday 30th July and Sunday 31st July.
Beautiful weather on bank holiday monday saw Stuart and the crew take the opportunity to launch the Sarah D. Tuesday and wednesday saw her new mooring severely tested with gusts on the club weatherstation recorded up to 57mph! And a picture from this morning showing she passed the test!
