The club extended a warm welcome to this extraordinary young man over the past couple of days. His name is Charlie Head and he’s paddleboarding around the entire UK for charity. You can follow his story here :-)

Too windy for SUP, sail, kayak

July 8, 2016 No Comments

Hi all,

apologies – but unfortunately the forecast looks like being too windy for SUP, kayaking and sailing at the open day tomorrow.

The North kiteboarding demo day and kitesurfing deepwater packdown sessions will still go ahead in the afternoon as planned – as will the BBQ and party on the evening.

kind regards,

John Matthews
Membership Secretary

Open day 9th July

June 20, 2016 No Comments
Saturday 9th July we’re planning another ‘Open Day’ at the club – weather permitting! The idea is to encourage people who may possibly join as members – to come down and try out the facilities for free. If you know anyone like that – please spread the word!
Also if you’re willing / available to help on that day – PLEASE let us know! We need help with:
- experienced sailors to give ‘joyrides’
- bar / bbq
- safety
- general beach duties, moving / launching / landing boards, boats
Steve Murfet from Hunstanton Watersports has kindly volunteered to co-ordinate bookings so if you know anyone who would fancy it – please get them to ring Steve on the number on the poster below (01485 534455) and book their spot.
High tide is 10am – so the plan is to run Sail, SUP and kayaking while the tides in – then late afternoon switch more towards kitesurfing (and possibly windsurfing) once the tides out.
On the kitesurfing side of things – there will be North demo day courtesy of powerkiteshop.com – if there’s any particular North gear you’d like to demo – please let us know and we’ll try and arrange it for you! To try out the demo gear – you need to be a competent kitesurfer and also have current BKSA insurance.
We also plan to run free deepwater packdown sessions in the afternoon. These will be similar to the very popular ones we ran last year – but in order to accommodate more people in the day – we’ll dispense with the prep and launching from a boat bit – and just approach you on the water where you’re already kitesurfing!
There’s a BBQ and party arranged for the evening – and that will definitely go ahead whatever weather we get thrown at us!
Hopefully see you there :-)

Mid-Summer BBQ

June 17, 2016 No Comments

As mentioned by email – we’ve got a Mid-Summer BBQ planned for tomorrow – 6pm onwards. Nothing too complicated – just good company, beer, food, music :-)

Sun and wind forecast for tomorrow with lowtide early afternoon – so get out there windsurfing / kiting then barbie after ;-)

Opening night

May 31, 2016 No Comments

Well no open day due to the weather – but a cracking opening night :-)

Massive thanks to Tony, Sofia, Alex and Mutley for playing the first ever gig upstairs at the club – what an awesome talent they are! Catch them again soon at Festival Too on Sunday 3rd July.

Was great to get a chance on the night to thank just some of the amazing volunteers this club is blessed with. None more so than the one-man ‘A-team’ that is ‘Will-I-Can’ Will Rockcliffe :-)

We hope to reschedule the open day again soon – so watch this space ;-)

OPEN DAY POSTPONED

May 29, 2016 No Comments
OPEN DAY POSTPONED
Massive apologies to anyone hoping to go SUPing, Canoeing or Sailing today – but we’ve had to make the call to postpone the open day due to unsuitable conditions.
It’s already a strong northerly wind and sizeable swell – and we want people’s first experience of watersports to be an enjoyable / safe one – not a hair-raising unpleasant one!
The club is still open all day with cake stall, teas, coffee’s, bar, bbq – so PLEASE come on down and check out the new facilities. Also if you’re around this evening – come and help us celebrate the opening of the new first-floor bar. Live band, beer, food, music and the best view in town! :-)

Open day update…

May 27, 2016 No Comments

Just a quick update on the planned open day this sunday (29th):

Several people have asked about whether there’s a minimum age – well the answer is ‘it depends on the activity’ ;-)

We’ve got very small ‘trainer kites’ that can be flown on the beach by any age. We’ve got ‘joyrides’ in the Wayfarer for 8yr olds and over if the sea state is calm – and the Stand Up Paddleboarding and Canoeing are 13yrs plus… (All children must be accompanied by an adult).

It’s only fair that we warn you that Sunday’s forecast isn’t looking ideal at the moment, with strong northerlies predicted. If it’s too windy / rough then activities may well have to be postponed.

Of course forecasts aren’t always accurate and we plan to make a call sunday morning and will update the website here as soon as we know.

If the British weather comes up trumps and we get a nice bank holiday for a change! These are the planned times / sessions:

10.30-11.00     11.30-12.00     12.30-13.00     (Lunch 13.00-14.00)     14.00-14.30     15.00-15.30

Please bring footwear you don’t mind getting wet, windproof top, change of clothes and a towel (buoyancy aids will be provided, selection of wetsuits also available).

If you’d like to book in advance – you can telephone Dave Harding on 07500 955698 – or just turn up to registration at 10am on sunday :-)

Open day

May 19, 2016 No Comments

craigv1On Sunday 29th May (weather permitting) – we’re planning on holding a ‘family and friends open day’ 10am – 4pm followed by a christening of the upstairs bar with a celebratory party / function in the evening. The following day is bank holiday monday so plenty of time to sleep off a hangover!

The idea of the open day is to attract more family members by letting people come along and ‘have a go’ at sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding – as well as just generally check out the clubs facilities / relax / have a family bbq etc.

If you’re able to help in any way, please let us know – the more volunteers the better!

But please come along anyway and enjoy the day whether you’re free to help or not – and please invite your ‘friends and family’ – all activities will be free of charge!

Into the water…

Good turnout again last night for the Introduction to Sailing – this time we all got into the water for the first time :-)

Unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of wind – but that didn’t stop everyone from having a go at a capsize drill (well nearly everyone ;-) )

Big thanks again to Stuart and Julia for their free tuition and to Will and Ian for manning the safety boats.
