Good evening to all our members. I guess like me, you have been waiting to see further progress, especially in relation to the incorrectly hung changing room doors and an improved door entry system.
We have now submitted the final snagging info to the builders and are awaiting their response. Here I would like to say thanks to those members who have taken the trouble to email me wiht their observations on issues that need addressing. Very helpful thanks.
We were unable to rehang the changing room doors ourselves as this would have invalidated the builders responsibilities. I can confirm we now have detailed plans available for the fire escapes, and have met with a door entry card system installer this week. Tim will inform the committee of the outcome asap.
Following on from an unfortunate incidence of a lack of privacy in the ladies showers recently, there is now a privacy screen inside the entrance door and David Gumb has ordered shower rails and curtains which should be delivered in the next week. I have been informed by several male colleagues that they do not feel we need to do the same for the male changing rooms, however if we get representations to the contrary, we can do the same.
‘In house’ work on phase two can begin once we have building regs approval for the fire escapes. Hopefully this will be soon. In the meantime Dave Gambell has been busy advising us of the improvements we can make re water supply / control and is busy drawing up the schematics for the electrical system required.
Gay Watt and I will be meeting with Jemma Curtis at the Borough Council in January to put together a joint funding bid to the Big Lottery.
Stuart Moore and I have been planning the 40th Anniversary weeks meeting for the Mirror Miracles next August and we need as many volunteers as possible to sign up cos a weeks activity is a heavy commitment and cannot be done by a few members. We need at least 30 people helping so don’t be shy and let me know your availability asap.
Interestingly, the Chairman of the OK class of sailing dinghy saw Carol Cliftons photo of the club on the website and have also asked if we can accommodate them for their National Championship. Just shows the power of good advertising eh? Should be even better once Phase two is complete.
Tim is busy planning the Youth Fun Week next year and also working toward us having a Youth Sailing Section. He has been on RYA courses looking at ways we can improve our position as a future centre of sailing excellence.
It’s been good to see so many of our kitesurf and windsurf members enjoying the high winds of late. For my part I prefer keeping dry and warm in winter as I get older!!! Though I have been attending auctions seeking and finding Shabby Chic furniture for the first floor once it’s complete.
Finally, we have been asked to host Cllr Richard Bird’s fun run on New Years Day once again. This means we will be providing bacon rolls for anyone who turns up at minimal cost. If you wish to join us about 10am on New Years Day, please let me know so we can cater accordingly.
I hope you can see although it is supposed to be the quiet part of the clubs year, we are still beavering away and will see further improvements very soon.
Hi there folks!
This is a very prestigious event, the 40th Anniversary of the Mirror Miracles Association.
We expect between 50 to 60 boats to compete. Children as well as adults. We as a club have committed to supply full support throughout the week. We need definite offers of help for the safety boats x 4, beach masters, various social events etc.
My purpose in sending this missive now is therefore to forewarn members of the event and its impact upon the clubs future vis a vis National events – and to ask whether or not you are able to commit to supporting this event and in what capacity.
We need to be able to plan ahead, SO if you haven’t committed to next years holidays yet, how about booking these dates in your diary and sending me confirmation or otherwise of your ability to assist?
Please, please don’t wait till a week before the event to offer your support WE NEED IT NOW !!!
I am again delighted to inform members that Ian and Thelma Holland, have in addition to donating new matting for entrance doors, have today presented the club with a brand new much needed Freezer . On behalf of our members, Thanks Ian and Thelma, much appreciated.
YIPPEE we finally took possession of the new club keys today. We are meeting for a Snagging meeting 4pm tomorrow. Wednesday, and will be busy setting up the bar , furniture etc on Thursday and Friday.. Its the North West Norfolk Sailing Association weekends racing this weekend, so the place will be buzzing . No space for parking I am afraid unless you are a volunteer helper . However as a thank you for your patience and support over these past few Months, I shall be providing one of my’ special’ Full English Breakfasts on Sunday 11th August!! When I will Christen the lovely new oven so kindly donated by Life Member, Dave Smith. If you would like to join us , please let me know by mid week at the latest so I can arrange sufficient food for all.
Looking forward to seeing you all in our lovely new clubhouse. Yippeee again !!!
Commodore , Mick
My thanks to all who came and supported us on the water today, especially all our younger members who really made it a special day. We had lots camera shots which look good on the replay. Shame the wind died for the cats, but was perfect weather for kayaks etc, and the club was even mentioned in the Credits at the end of the show.
CBBC TV is broadcasting live from the Oasis Centre from 9am to 10am on Saturday 13th July, the ‘WILD’ show
The club has been asked if we can have a backdrop of various craft on the water and children seen enjoying themselves. Les Collinson hopes to have some Kayaks on the water, I shall be out with my Catamaran and a young crew as will Mark Lees. Tim or a colleague will have the safety boat there and will possibly take a camera man out to get close ups of the activity which might also include a windsurfer/kiter.
Snettisham Sailing Club I believe will also have a Rib on the water.
If you wish to be on the water with your Son/Daughter/young relative, for a bit of TV fame, you will need to sign a form agreeing to filming of the offspring. I will have the forms.
Please let me know if you can/will join us by next Wednesday at the latest. Its all good publicity for the club
