Phased opening of the HSC facilities – Phase 3 – Bar Opening 4th July

July 3, 2020 No Comments

Who needs to go away to Greece when we have such awesome wind and weather here? Today was great wind and Sat and Sunday looking good too.

We are aiming to open the club bar on Saturday evening from 7pm on Sat 4th July. We have spent a lot of time putting a procedure together in an attempt to minimise the risk of spreading the virus and keeping everyone safe. As you can imagine, complying with the guidance has not been easy, so please bear with us as we trial the procedure for the first time on Saturday. We are hoping to open every Saturday for now and we will review extending this to ad hoc opening later.

As the space inside is fairly limited we will be asking people to use the balcony or patio in the first instance. If we get to a situation where it is not possible to comply with the guidance, then we will have to deny entry until numbers drop off. If the weather is bad then it is unlikely that we will be able to seat more than 20 people inside.

We already have procedures in place to cover club kit use, toilets and picnic tables. We now have one for customers using the bar. These procedures are not the most exciting read but they contain important information to keep you safe, so please read them before you turn up. They have been emailed to members for your reference.

The main points to note for the bar are as follows:

1.Enter via main staircase as normal (this is now a one-way system)
2.Sign in using the list on LHS of the bar
3.Space out and observe social distancing until your turn to order at the bar
4.Only enter the bar zone to pay (contactless card only) and collect your drinks
5.Take your drinks outside to the balcony or via the RHS fire escape stairs to the patio
6.If the weather is bad and there is space inside, you may take a seat in the lounge
7.Before leaving, take your disposable glasses and rubbish to one of the bins
8.Leave by the RHS fire exit door one-way system
9.Access the toilets by leaving the building as described above
10.Please observe the current social distancing rules
11.Wash hands regularly or use the alcohol gel dispensers located around the club

Thanks for your patience and we look forward to this new chapter following 4 months of abstinence!

Phased opening of the HSC facilities – Phase 2 – Club Kit and Picnic Tables 7th Jun

June 7, 2020 No Comments

Another week of cracking wind has gone by and as promised, the second phase of reopening was completed today. Members can now borrow the club equipment from the garage and we have also made the picnic tables available. There are procedures posted at the club to observe and follow to ensure safety and prevent the spread of the disease. Please observe BSUPA advice below.

Phased opening of the HSC facilities – Phase 1 – Toilets 1st Jun

June 1, 2020 No Comments

Most of the activity has been at Old Hunstanton for the last week with the amazing North Easterlies, which seemed to pick up in the afternoon with the sun charged sea breeze. However, I’m sure the South Westerlies will be back soon and to make life a little easier we have now opened the club toilets for members and their guests. As you can imagine, trying to open this part of the club and still comply with the official guidance is challenging. We have a procedure in place which is posted on the changing room doors for members to follow. We have taken advice from the RYA and other official sites and we hope this will work for everyone.

So from today, 1st June, the toilets are open for business!

The guidance does not allow us to open the clubhouse at the moment, so changing rooms, showers and bar areas are still closed.

Next task is to make available the club kit in the garage. We hope to have a procedure in place for this by the end of the weekend.

Thanks for your patience.

Enjoy!

Return to water sport activities on 13th May

May 20, 2020 No Comments

Following the government’s advice on the 10th May, the RYA and other water sports governing bodies are allowing a cautious return to the water from 13th May until further notice. We are delighted to see members back on the water and also pleased that so many new memberships have been taken up. At the moment single handed recreational water sports are allowed and so is boating that has more than one person on board, so long as they are all from the same household. Unfortunately the club house currently remains closed but we are working up a solution to allow it to be opened in phases later and following guidance from the government and RYA. We will look at opening the toilets in the first phase and then the showers after this. There are no plans to open the bar until government guidance allows and our own risk assessments consider it safe. The loan of club kit is unfortunately not yet possible due to safety concerns but the committee are considering how this can be made available to members in the near future. We are also in regular contact with the RYA who are supporting and updating clubs like ours on a daily basis. If you are unsure of anything then please contact one of the committee members or refer to the Covid-19 guidance on the RYA website. Please be safe both on and off the water and take on board the RYA advice.4129 RYA Return to Boating Poster FINAL ONLINE 300dpi

Covid 19 – Corona Virus Update 24 March 2020

March 25, 2020 No Comments

The Hunstanton Sailing Club and Water Sports Centre considers the welfare of our members and their families and friends to be of the utmost importance. We are reviewing the Corona virus situation regularly and following the advice and guidance of Public Health England. For this reason we are having to make changes to the way we operate.

To keep you safe and to minimise the spread of the virus, we advise the following changes to our operations:-

Hunstanton Sailing Club and Water Sports Centre will be closed from 24th March 2020 for the time being.

This means that all group, individual, social, watersports and other club based events will be cancelled until we advise otherwise.

At the moment we will consider taking bookings for events from June but these will be provisional, as it is highly likely that they will need to be cancelled or postponed.

In order to shut the club facilities down safely, we will be decommissioning the bar and draining/cleaning the pipes. The hot water system will also be switched off.

We will be reducing the cleaning frequency as the facilities will be closed.

Only essential maintenance tasks will be undertaken.

We will be in touch soon regarding membership renewal options.

Thank you for your cooperation in these difficult times and please contact one of the club committee members should you have and questions or concerns. Please be safe and take care.

Covid 19 Update HSC

Covid 19 – Corona Virus Update 21st March 2020

The Hunstanton Sailing Club and Water Sports Centre considers the welfare of our members and their families and friends to be of the utmost importance. We are reviewing the coronavirus situation regularly and following the advice and guidance of Public Health England. For this reason we are having to make changes to the way we operate.

To keep you safe and to follow the government’s guidance, we advise the following changes to our operations:-

All group, social, watersports and other club based events will be cancelled for March, April and May 2020. We will advise about the status of other scheduled events from June onwards, nearer the time.

At the moment we will consider taking bookings for events from June but these will be provisional, as it is highly likely that they will need to be cancelled or postponed.

We will continue with the current cleaning regime but this will be enhanced to focus on all contact surfaces such as doors, door handles, shower valves, alarm keyboard etc.

Hand sanitiser will be provided for occupants to use in the building.

Individual water sports including windsurfing, kitesurfing, kayaking, supping and single handed sailing dinghies will still be supported and encouraged, so long as the government’s guidance on travelling, social interaction and separation distance of 2m is observed. We recognise that getting exercise and fresh air is important to maintain fitness and social wellbeing in this difficult period.

Club facilities including toilets and showers will remain open to members who continue to follow the latest government advice regarding travelling, social interaction, gathering and the 2m rule. The bar will be closed until further notice.

Members displaying the symptoms of Covid 19 should not use the club house facilities until they are deemed to be no longer contagious as described in the government’s guidance.

There are a number maintenance tasks that need to be completed on the club buildings and the boats. These were going to be undertaken at a number of prearranged working parties. These working parties have been cancelled. Instead we will be undertaking the works using individual volunteers or a handful of volunteers observing the safe 2m distance between one another and other current, relevant government advice.

The government’s advice is changing daily unlike our website. For this reason the government’s advice will always override the advice on this website.

We are so lucky that the sport that we love is individual but please be careful and observe the government’s advice when you are off the water and using the club facilities.

Thank you for your cooperation in these difficult times and please contact one of the club committee members should you have and questions or concerns.
